Monday Morning Musings: Your Kingdom Come

Publication2Are you weighed down by challenges, issues, too many  problems … don’t know how to pray?

Your kingdom come, Your will be done–on earth as it is in heaven.

Are you  worried, anxious, inundated by bad news … don’t know what to do?

Your kingdom come, Your will be done–on earth as it is in heaven.

Are you frustrated, perplexed, confused by too many opinions … don’t know what to believe?

Your kingdom come, Your will be done–on earth as it is in heaven.

I think it is pretty obvious to anyone who is still breathing that we are living in rather tumultuous times–at least as far as what we can see with our natural eyes. The political and social climate both in our nation and around the world has become more intense, complex, and often, divisive. Add our own personal issues and challenges into the mix, and it is easy to see why so many people are walking around overwhelmed, anxious, and often in despair. Many have been driven to prayer – which on the surface sounds good – and it is! But it’s not as good as it could be.

It’s not as good as it could be because far too often we resort to praying from our feelings, opinions, experiences, biases, and desires–rather than His. Prayer is communion and communication with God. It is supposed to be a two-way conversation. It’s not that those other things are always wrong, but we can’t solely rely on our own opinions and desires because they’re not always in alignment with God’s. We need to continually seek His heart and will. We need to keep our hands and hearts open in surrender whenever we come before Him. Whether we recognize it or not, we don’t always know how to pray–so we need Him to teach us.

And how did Jesus teach us to pray?

Your kingdom come, Your will be done–on earth as it is in heaven.

We need to seek first the reality of  His kingdom–released on earth as it is in heaven. Because when we seek first His kingdom, “all these (other) things are added to you” (Matt. 6:33).

Here’s the thing–God does want prayer to be a time of communion between your heart and His. He wants you to know and share His heart. And He wants you to join Him in declaring His hearts desire in your life, your family, your city, your country—even the nations of the earth. Agreement is POWERFUL—especially when we agree with God!  And not only that, agreeing with His plans is actually something that gives Him profound pleasure:

God has now revealed to us his mysterious plan regarding Christ, a plan to fulfill his own good pleasure. And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. —Eph. 1:9-10 (NLT)

Does that sound familiar? It should, because it sounds an awful lot like “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

This has been His plan all along. Let’s join Him in declaring His purposes and in seeing His heart’s desire fulfilled on the earth …

Your kingdom come, Your will be done–on earth as it is in heaven!

**Just a quick note that I will be leaving for Israel in a couple days and most likely won’t have a chance to post for a few weeks. I will catch you all on the flip side! Here are the podcast links for this week:

  1. I’ve just been thinking along these lines!! What a good reminder that when I’m feeling scattered, overwhelmed, or just plain tired, a good place to start is “Thy kingdom come and will be done.”!! thanks for a good reinforcement. Will you be sharing photos from Israel???

  2. Thank you for a wonderful blog Cindy! Blessing on your trip to Israel!
When we stop judging by physical appearances and looking at things FROM earth’s perspective to heaven with our physical eyes, and begin to see from open, enlightened heart eyes seated with Christ from heavenly places TO earth, things begin to look completely different and we begin to do our Father’s Will and join in what he is doing and saying on earth as it is in heaven! We begin to see God’s kingdom of heaven on earth increase, multiply and become fruitful!! O Joy unspeakable!!

    1. Amen, amen and amen! That is it exactly! Now we just need to keep that perspective (or at least I do) … but that is the journey, isn’t it? And thank you for the blessings on my trip – I can’t wait to be there again! ! Blessings and joy to you!

Amen! This is how I see prayer. It’s a mutual sharing of hearts. So much more satisfying and effective when it’s a conversation rather than a monologue! 🙂 But this interaction is so vital to our transformation. Thanks for sharing this.
Blessings on your trip to Israel!

    1. Thanks Mel. God must have lots of good in store for this trip because there have been many, ahem, “opportunities to trust Jesus” this last day or two along with lots of crazy unresolved logistical “issues” on the other side. It’s going to be good! All the best with the book – I’ve downloaded my copy and I’m looking forward to diving in somewhere along the way!
