Monday Morning Musings: Into the Quiet

It’s been quiet lately.

It’s been quiet in my soul.

God has been quiet too. And I’m okay with that.

Oh don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of noise “out there.” The world has been anything but quiet. There are a hundred and one distractions–all of them literally screaming for attention.

There is a lot of darkness “out there” too. It certainly isn’t hard to spot. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t been touched by it in one way or another–some in unimaginably horrific ways.

But it’s quiet in my soul.

It hasn’t been easy to find the quiet. It hasn’t been easy to step away from the distractions … from drudgery … from disappointments and discouragement. But I’ve been fighting for the quiet as if my life depended on it.

Because it does.

So does yours.

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you”
(Is. 60:1-2).

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them …” (Luke 2:8-9).

God could have made the announcement of “good news” anywhere. He could have gone to the busiest town during the brightest, busiest hour of the day. But he didn’t.

He came in the quiet.

He came to the quiet ones … to those who were still … to those who stepped out of the clamor and chaos .. to those who embraced the stillness of the night.

Do you need some good news?

Quiet your soul.

Step away from the distractions … from drudgery … from disappointment and discouragement. It is possible, even, to step away from devastation. Let him illuminate the darkness. Embrace the quiet of night with expectation, because …

The people living in darkness have seen a great light (Matt. 4:16) … GOOD NEWS that will bring great joy for all the people (Luke 2:10).

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).

Step into the quiet. Step into the light. Step into hope.

Step into peace.

And listen for the good news …

Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.  For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”  –Luke 2:10-14 NKJV

    1. I’m so glad! I honestly wasn’t even sure this would make sense to anyone else. Just typed out the Scriptures in my spirit even if they didn’t exactly seem to fit. 🙂 Love you friend!
