Persevering … in rest

“Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you.” – Matt. 7:7 (Amp)

“…men always ought to pray and not lose heart.” –Luke 18:1 (NKJV)

“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” –James 5:16 (NKJV)

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. ” –Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)

” So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.” –Hebrews 10:36-36 (NLT)

Are you struggling to lay hold of the promises of God? Could it be that you’re focusing your energy on the wrong thing?

“This is the work of God, that you believe …” –John 6:29 (NKJV)

“For only those who believe can enter his rest.” –Hebrews 4:3 (NLT)

“For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.  So let us do our best to enter that rest.” –Hebrews 4:10-11 (NLT)

In striving, we struggle and strain to lay hold of promises that are already ours. In rest, His promises lay hold of us.

And when that happens …

Quitting is never an option.

  1. “In striving, we struggle and strain to lay hold of promises that are already ours. In rest, His promises lay hold of us.” Yes! Amen! I love this line. It really says it all. We seem to want to get it backwards. But a tree doesn’t strive to produce fruit; fruit happens when it abides where it was planted, when it absorbs the radiant sunlight and drinks in the rain. And I think that’s a pretty good metaphor about our life in Christ. Abide, absorb, and drink in the Spirit within you!
Thanks for the awesome encouragement and reminder to rest! Blessings.

    1. Amen … great motto: abide, absorb, and drink (drink, drink) in the sweet rain of the Spirit. All our “doing” works so much better when we start with “done.” Blessings to you Mel!

    1. SO good to hear from you Glenda! I’m not sure what’s going on with WP’s notification system. I’m not even getting the notifications I used to get for my own blog, let alone emails when someone else posts. I’m catching some things through the reader, but that is hit and miss. I like it when I get emails better! Maybe I will need to do what you’re doing and go sign up again from the few I used to get emails for … At any rate, glad you “found” me again 🙂

  2. So glad to have found your blog. Thanks for this beautiful reminder and for encouraging the Body of Christ to rest. Our souls can rest in Him, while we run the race that is set before us and strive in the works He prepared for us so long ago 🙂 Blessings to you. Glad to have crossed paths with you!
