Sometimes I set out to write one thing, then the post takes on a life of its own and goes a direction I hadn’t even thought about. That was the case with this post I wrote over at Deeper Waters. When that happens, I usually just figure someone “out there” needed to hear what I ended up writing. In this case, I was surprised to discover that “someone” was me …
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”
“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” –Luke 5:4-6 (NLT)
It all sounds so familiar.
Been there.
Done that.
Tried and tried …
Over and over again.
But I’ve caught nothing.
I’ve accomplished nothing.
I’ve received nothing.
I’m still in this wasteland.
I’m still in this wilderness.
I’m still in this barrenness …
Alone with my pain.
But a sound breaks into the darkness of loss and failure.
The Voice.
Quiet as a whisper on the wind.
Unmistakable as thunder.
Alluring me …
Beckoning me…
Calling me …
To go out …
Where it’s deeper.
To let my “nets” down.
To let my guard down.
One. More. Time.
