“May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” – Number 6:24-26
About two weeks ago, I first heard a new song called, “The Blessing.” It is a powerful song that I believe God orchestrated at this particular moment in time to encourage our hearts and remind us of His intentions toward us. It’s taken straight from Numbers 6 and Deuteronomy 28 (there is a link below).
Recently, I went back to read the Aaronic blessing (Numbers 6:24-26), and I was struck afresh by the fact that it was God who initiated the blessing. Aaron wasn’t making a request of God, he was simply following the Lord’s command. God told Aaron exactly what He wanted declared over the people.
And God wanted them blessed.
Beloved, that is so important to remember. God’s heart is to bless us. God’s heart is for us. God’s heart is blessing and wholeness. It is the thief that comes to kill, steal, and destroy—but Jesus came that we might have abundant life in Him.
In a fallen world, we experience a multitude of circumstances that are far from the wholeness and abundance Jesus promised. That’s why we need to press on to lay hold of that for which He laid hold of us. As we do, our words matter. Our thoughts about God’s heart and His intentions toward us matter. Our belief system matters. The Bible underscores this in Numbers 6: 27:
“Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.”
Did you catch that? When we speak blessing over ourselves and others in agreement with His word, then He Himself WILL bless us. Now more than ever, let’s make sure that our prayers, our declarations, and even our day-to-day conversations, line up with the unchanging nature of God heart toward us.
And THIS is His heart:
May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace. ~ Amen!
I hear Him say: You have captured my heart with one glance of your eyes!
