Spontaneous Devotions: “The Highlanders”

“Keep trusting in the Lord and do what’s right in his eyes. Fix your heart on the promises of God and you will be secure; feasting on his faithfulness. Make God the utmost delight and pleasure of your life and he will provide for you what you desire the most. Give God the right to direct your life, and as you trust him along the way, you’ll find he pulled it off perfectly!” –Ps.37:3-5 tPt

Jesus, I want to set my gaze upon You. I want to fix my heart upon Your promises. I want to set my mind on things above not earthly things. It’s better there, Lord. Life is so much better in Your presence. Life is better feasting on Your faithfulness. And Your faithfulness is a feast! Your faithfulness is abundant; it is extravagant! The table you set before me is full and overflowing. There is no lack in Your kingdom. Your children are never orphans or beggars–we are beloved sons and daughters; co-heirs with Christ.

When have You ever failed us, Lord? You are perfect in all Your ways. Perfect in Your leadership. Perfect in mercy. Above all, You are perfect in love. We willingly give You the right to direct our lives. We place our trust in You. We invite You to invade our hearts and minds with Your truth and with Your promises.

Thank You, Lord, that as we make you the utmost delight and pleasure of our lives You do give us the desires of our hearts. And Jesus may the greatest desire of our hearts always be for You and for Your presence. We want to be with You; move with You; and be consciously aware of living in You and through You. Thank You for this great delight and privilege–it is Your good pleasure to give us the kingdom!

We do thank You for giving us the desires of our hearts, but Lord we invite You to delight in us that we might give You the desires of Yours. And what greater desire do You have Lord than to see Your children walk in truth? The truth of who you are. The truth of who we are in You. The truth of who we are to You. God, flood our hearts and minds with the reality of our identity in You. Jesus we want to rest secure; we want to feast on Your faithfulness; we want to gaze on Your beauty;  we want to delight in You and we want You to delight in us. We want to live high above the inferior realities and challenges of this present age and take our place seated with You in heavenly realms. This is the truth You long for us to apprehend. This is the longing and desire of Your heart, Lord. Here and now we come up higher and we choose to dwell with You–soaring on wings of freedom, truth, discovery, and delight.

We are the highlanders. Those who soar above the fray…where we can always feast on Your faithfulness.

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” –Col. 3:1-4

Amen!
