I don’t know about you, but I have been sensing a lot of panic and anxiety in the air. I’ve had to fight more than usual to keep it off myself. Whether it is personal circumstances, current events, or some combination, I feel like so much of the church is demonstrating a lot more fear than faith. So when I saw this quote recently as part of a post by Johnny Enlow, it really resonated.
Whatever we spend time and energy focusing on will always grow larger and louder. Even our prayers can be hijacked by hell when they are fueled more by fear than faith. It’s not that God doesn’t want to hear about our concerns – the difficulties we face in life are real. We can’t – and shouldn’t – deny or ignore them. We SHOULD pour out our hearts to Him. But be purposeful about focusing on what He CAN do, and not what you CAN’T. Circumstances should never consume the bulk of our focus—in prayer or in life. Only God alone is worthy of that place.
So instead of focusing on the momentary facts of our lives, let’s purpose to focus on the promises and goodness of God. Instead of magnifying our fears, let’s magnify His faithfulness. Individually, if we consistently and intentionally shift our focus, it will transform our hearts, minds, and lives. But if we ever manage to get this down corporately … it will change the world.

Amen and amen! What you said about that we don’t ignore concerns we’re just to pour them out to Him is so important. Many skeptics think we’re in denial because we have faith. Quite the opposite. We have more confidence in the Author of our faith than in our current circumstances. There is no fear in heaven and our life is hid there in Christ. Or, as Bill Johnson has said many times, I cannot afford to have a thought in my head that’s not in His.
