Spontaneous Devotions: “The Source”

We come with nothing
Yet have everything in You
Christ in us
The hope of glory
Even more astounding
The hope of Your glory
Is Christ in us
Your glory
Entrusted to us
The earth filled with glory
When You
The Source
Flow through us

Such a marvelous mystery
The Infinite
Dwelling within the finite
The Source of all life
Filling fragile jars of clay

We come with nothing
Yet have everything in You
As we run into Your arms
And lean our heads on Your chest
We hear the heartbeat of heaven
Immersed again
In the endless ocean of Your love
Resting again
In the simple beauty of being Yours
Aware again
Of our pure unbroken communion
With the Source

The Source of all creativity
The Source of all beauty
The Source of all peace
The Source of all joy
The Source of all love
The Source of all life
The Source of all goodness
Christ in us
The hope of glory

Sometimes these “spontaneous devotions” really are spontaneous to a degree that is difficult to describe. This past week, we chatted for some time about other things. I was just about to leave when Aeron pulled out his sketch pad. Honestly, I was thinking, I don’t know if this is the right time. I’ve got nothing. So that’s what we started with–nothing.

Fortunately He is the Source that never runs dry. As a writer, sometimes I’m afraid that one day the words will just stop. I’m really not all that creative. But I never need to worry about trying to conjure something up–I just need to keep coming up higher. I just need to take a moment to jump into His arms, lean my head on His chest, and listen to His heart. There, the creative flow is endless. Endless oceans effortlessly flowing from the Source of all that is good.

Artwork by Aeron Brown. Spontaneous devotions are just that – a spontaneous collaborative expression of worship. I read scripture and/or some devotional thoughts, then pray into those those thoughts while Aeron draws. For others click here.

  1. “I just need to take a moment to jump into His arms, lean my head on His chest, and listen to His heart.” Amen! I’m thankful that you opened your arms and jumped into His arms spontaneously; I’m sure He was expecting you to and because I am always blessed to hear what the Father wants to share through you. Amen! Awesome, encouraging words that we need reminded of constantly. I’m glad Aeron pulled out his pad and you stuck around and responded to what God had in mind. 🙂

What blows my mind whenever I think of these realities is that, while the whole of creation is inside of Christ and held together by Him (Col.1:16-17), He has chosen to make His home inside of us! Tilt!
